Beatrice Wind Farm Visit

On Friday, Equitix COO Siôn Jones, CFA and Managing Director, Asset Management (Renewable Power) Nathan Wakefield met with Keir Starmer, Ed Miliband, Anas Sarwar and Colin Smyth at our co-owned offshore windfarm site, Beatrice.

It is an 84 turbine site off the coast of Caithness, near Wick, Scotland and is the country’s second largest operational offshore windfarm capable of generating enough energy to power 450,000 homes. It is one of the largest single sources of renewable energy generation in Scotland.

Our team met with the Labour leaders and MSPs, discussing our shared concerns on the importance of keeping clean energy at the top of the government’s agenda to help alleviate fuel poverty, while working towards the energy transition and NetZero targets.

Currently, Equitix provides 15% of all UK offshore wind capabilities and has invested more than £7.7bn across UK infrastructure to date. We have invested into Scotland for the last decade and in the North East alone we provide for almost 10,000 pupil places in our schools, handle 100,000 tons of waste, turned into energy and provide 24MWth of thermal energy generation capacity.

Scotland is an important region for renewable power in its own right, and a heavyweight in the provision of supplying renewable energy with a staggering 85% of the UK’s hydro electric energy.

Beatrice is owned by SSE RenewablesRed Rock Power Limited, TRIG and Equitix.
