Equitix agrees sale of Enerfarm to VORN Bioenergy
Equitix, Europe’s leading mid-market infrastructure investor and developer, today announces the sale of Enerfarm, its portfolio of five anaerobic digestion
and biomethane plants across Northern Italy, to VORN Bioenergy.
Acquired by Equitix in 2022, Enerfarm has undergone a significant transformation during Equitix’s ownership, evolving from a portfolio of biogas-to-power assets into a biomethane platform positioned to support Italy’s renewable gas ambitions.
Since acquisition, Equitix has worked closely with management to deliver a number of key milestones, including the successful permitting of four plants to convert from biogas-to-power to anaerobic digestion-to-biomethane facilities, alongside approvals to significantly increase capacity. The business has now successfully commenced commissioning activities at two of the upgraded plants.
Once fully operational, the portfolio is expected to have a production capacity exceeding 215 GWh per year, equivalent to the thermal energy requirements of approximately 20,000 households. The transaction also includes Enerfarm’s associated composting operation. The acquisition supports VORN Bioenergy’s strategy of expanding its European biomethane platform and growing renewable gas production across key European markets.
Achal Bhuwania Chief Investment Officer at Equitix, said:”The sale of Enerfarm will be our twentieth exit over the last five years and is a great example of how we collaborate with management teams to build long-term value. Under our ownership, the business has transformed from a portfolio of operating biogas assets into a robust biomethane platform. We’ve successfully navigated key permitting, financing and development milestones, solidifying the business’s position for its next phase of expansion. We extend our best wishes to the Enerfarm team and VORN as they move the platform forward.”
The acquisition supports VORN Bioenergy’s strategy of expanding its European biomethane platform and adds a portfolio that has progressed through key permitting, conversion and commissioning milestones under Equitix’s ownership.
The transaction completed on 18th September 2026.
