Equitix expands its German home decarbonisation exposure, reinforcing European mid-market renewables strategy
Equitix today announces a further investment in a second German residential solar, home battery and EV charger portfolio developed by Enpal, one of Germany’s leading renewable energy platforms. The transaction represents a continued step in Equitix’s strategy to scale its presence in the European mid-market infrastructure sector, with a strong focus on renewable energy and expansion across the DACH region.
This investment builds on Equitix’s established partnership with Enpal, MM Capital Partners (MMCP) and Keppel Infrastructure Trust (KIT), following its initial investment in Enpal’s first German residential solar portfolio in 2023, and includes participation by MHLS (Mizuho Leasing, a leading Japanese leasing company) in this transaction. Together, these investments create one of the largest residential rooftop solar portfolios in Europe, reinforcing the strength of the partnership and supporting the continued deployment of distributed renewable energy infrastructure across Germany. It reflects the firm’s ongoing conviction in Germany as a key market for energy transition infrastructure and its ambition to deepen its footprint in the region, supported by a growing local team and recent hires across the DACH platform.
The portfolio comprises approximately 17,300 operational home decarbonisation systems installed at residential properties across Germany, with a further approximately 6,400 systems expected to be deployed by June 2027. The systems include rooftop solar, inverters, home batteries (c.70% of systems) and EV chargers (c.40% of systems). Once fully operational, the portfolio is expected to deliver approximately 240 MW of renewable energy capacity, including 35 MW of retrofitted assets, further enhancing Equitix’s position as a leading investor in European distributed solar infrastructure.
The systems are leased to households under long-term agreements, generating stable and predictable revenues supported by Germany’s established renewable energy framework. Enpal will continue to provide monitoring and maintenance services, ensuring consistent performance across the portfolio.
The transaction aligns with Equitix’s investment focus on essential infrastructure assets that deliver resilient, long-term, contracted cashflows. Distributed solar remains a key thematic priority, offering strong fundamentals through its role in decarbonisation, energy security and the decentralisation of energy systems.
Achal Bhuwania, CIO Equitix said: “This investment demonstrates the strength of our European mid-market strategy: backing essential infrastructure that provides resilient, long-term contracted cashflows while supporting the energy transition. Germany remains a highly attractive market for distributed renewable energy infrastructure, and this transaction further deepens our exposure in the DACH region.”
Kevin Neo, CEO of KIFM, said: “This second acquisition from Enpal demonstrates our confidence in the German renewable energy market and our ability to scale proven investment strategies. By adding 205 MW of solar capacity, we are able secure highly predictable cash flows from German house owners and Germany’s robust feed-in-tariff regime that will enhance our ability to deliver stable and recurring distributions to our unitholders.”
Equitix continues to focus on infrastructure investments that provide essential services and long-term value for investors and communities. This latest transaction strengthens its renewable energy platform, deepens its partnership with Enpal, and reinforces its commitment to supporting Europe’s transition to a low-carbon future.
