Equitix strengthens Spanish Hybridisation platform with acquisition of Canales Sur
Equitix and its partners have expanded its growing Spanish renewable energy platform with its latest majority acquisition of Canales Sur near Palencia, Spain (the Project). The Project consists of a 91 MW wind farm with the potential to be increased to 120 MW, as well as under-development solar PV and battery storage hybridisation projects. The wind farm has signed a new turbine supply and long‑term maintenance agreement with Nordex, and balance‑of‑plant, substation and evacuation infrastructure contracts with Eiffage.
Canales Sur is the third project acquired from Capital Energy by Equitix under the Framework Agreement between the companies, and the seventh asset purchase to date since 2024. The Agreement gives the Platform exclusivity over a 1GW pipeline of hybrid renewable energy projects. With the Project now advancing, the Platform has acquired 50% of the total planned installed capacity of the pipeline, marking a significant milestone in its growth trajectory and strengthening Equitix’s position as a leading investor in Europe’s emerging hybrid energy systems.
Construction activity is expected to generate over 1,600 direct jobs at peak, with a strong emphasis on local workers and local supply‑chain participation, reinforcing the project’s socioeconomic benefits for the region.
Achal Bhuwania, Chief Investment Officer at Equitix, said:
“Europe’s energy transition demands more than new generation capacity. It requires fully integrated systems that combine wind, solar and storage to deliver resilience, flexibility and long‑term value. Canales Sur embodies this next generation of infrastructure.”
“Reaching the halfway point in the acquisition of our current pipeline with Capital Energy marks a significant milestone, made possible by the strength of our global strategic partnerships and the relentless execution capability of our local team in Spain. These partnerships – and our people – are accelerating delivery at scale and positioning Equitix at the forefront of Europe’s renewable transformation.”
“We will continue backing the technologies, markets and partners shaping Europe’s clean‑energy future, and Canales Sur is a powerful demonstration of that commitment.”
