Director, Middle East Investments
Umer leads Equitix’s investment activities in the Middle East, having joined in 2019. In particular, he spearheads Equitix’s investment efforts related to Rakiza, an infrastructure equity fund focused on Oman and the MENAT Region.
With 21 years’ experience in infrastructure, energy, M&A, PPP & project finance internationally, Umer has led many equity, debt financing and advisory businesses. He started his career in M&A advisory at Goldman Sachs in London and spent further 12 years as a project finance banker (debt and equity), lending and investing into projects and infrastructure businesses.During this time he was also a director at Barclays for 7 years. After Thereafter he has been in the Middle East for 9 years, spending several years in advisory ,including being Head of Deloitte’s P&IF advisory team across the Middle East, a team which he grew from inception, prior to returning to being a principal.
Umer’s transaction experience is vast, having been involved in closing around 25 transactions, with an aggregate deal value of well over USD12bn. His sector experience spans Digital (Telecom) Infrastructure, Renewable & Conventional Energy, Utilities, Transport, Social Infrastructure, PPP, Real Estate and Oil & Gas.
Viewed as a leading industry figure, he has twice been invited to preside on the judging panel for IJ Global’s annual awards for the Middle East & Africa. In addition, since 2017 Umer has been a Board Member of the International Project Finance Association’s (IPFA) Middle East Branch Council.
Umer is a graduate of King’s College London, where he completed a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics & Management.
