Oman International Container Terminal

Oman International Container Terminal is a major cargo terminal port in the region. It is a modern facility capable of accommodating the latest generation of mega-vessels.

The Port of Sohar is Oman’s main container port in a strategic location just outside of the Strait of Hormuz. It is run by Hutchison Port Holdings, one of the world’s largest container terminal operators who have been awarded an exclusive concession for the terminal until 2043. After the closure of the old Sultan Qaboos port in Muscat, all gateway volumes were transferred to Sohar and OICT commands a strong market share. Since acquisition, the capacity of the port has increased from 1.6MM TEU to 2.4MM TEU due to the installation of new equipment, increasing handling throughput and port capacity.

This project is 100% owned by Rakiza, a private equity infrastructure fund investing in Oman and Saudi Arabia, which is co-managed by Oman Infrastructure Investment Management (OIM) and Equitix. The Fund invests in Saudi Arabia and Oman, focusing on the renewables, power and water, social infrastructure, telecommunications, and transport and logistics sectors.
