Achal Bhuwania is the Chief Investment Officer for Equitix.

Achal is a member of the Equitix Board and the Investment Committee. He is focused on origination & execution of transactions and manages the Investments team.

Achal has more than 20 years’ of experience in the infrastructure sector across transport, social infrastructure, regulated utilities and renewables. He is a driving force behind the velocity and ambition of Equitix’s transaction programme and plays a pivotal role in steering the firm’s strategic direction and long-term vision. His leadership ensures that Equitix continues to execute with pace, discipline and clarity of purpose, while shaping investment strategies that position the business for sustained growth.

Since joining Equitix, he has closed in excess of 50 transactions with equity of more than $15bn and EV of more than $75bn. Some of these include; the acquisitions of the M25; High Speed 1 (HS1); the public takeover of the John Laing Infrastructure Fund, and John Laing plc; the acquisition of interests in Viridor Group; the acquisition and disposal of Electricity North West (ENW); Firmus Energy; Greenlink interconnector; Aurora Infrastructure Oy; the acquisition of smart metering assets including MapleCo (followed by the subsequent merger of Calisen and MapleCo) and I&C meters portfolio of SMS plc; Beatrice, Moray East and Hornsea 1 offshore wind acquisitions as well as a portfolio of eight offshore wind interests. Plus, the acquisition of interests in Cornerstone Towers UK, Air Tanker Holdings, several social infrastructure assets, and onshore wind and solar portfolios.

Achal has led Equitix’s rail strategy and its successful implementation which includes the acquisition of interests in the Inter-City Express rolling stock programme (IEP East and West), Barcelona Metro, Thameslink rolling stock (and its later disposal, the Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) rolling stock and Wales & Borders rolling stock programme.
