Community Hub National Award

Congratulations to hubsouthwestscotland who recently won a national award for a new community hub building in North Lanarkshire Council – adding yet another award to their packed trophy cabinet.

Hub South West Scotland

Equitix are the major private sector shareholder in hub South West, which is a leading long-term development partnership between public and private sector organisations that work together on innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions for infrastructure projects throughout the south west region of Scotland.  Since its establishment in 2012, hub South West has overseen the development of >£1bn in social infrastructure projects across the region.

The £18 million community hub in Newmains was named top of the class at this year’s Scottish Design Awards 2023.  The hub was awarded Gold in the Education Building or Project category and also took home the prestigious Grand Prix in Architecture award, in association with architects, BDP .  Hub South West Scotland delivered this on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council with BAM Construction as their construction partner.

With a focus on outdoor space, the campus is home to an 11-a-side outdoor sports pitch, extensive outdoor play areas and new paths to connect the community. Each teaching wing has covered external space and a sensory garden. A forest school has been planted with willow structures, an outdoor classroom, a fire pit and den building zone. The state-of-the-art campus also includes a first-ever dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) themed classroom, a dedicated breastfeeding area as part of the council’s initiative to encourage more mums to breastfeed, EV charging for electric vehicles and bike storage to encourage active travel.
