Bio Energy Base (BEE)

Bio Energy Base involves the design, build and operation of a biomass facility in the port of Ghent, Belgium. The project achieved takeover on 20 June 2022 when commercial operations commenced. The plant has an operational life of 25 years,

The plant utilises moving grate for its combustion technology and was considered due to its reliability and robustness for treating waste wood feedstock. These feedstocks are composed of materials which cannot be reused nor recycled and can only be subject to energy recovery; as a result it also benefits from renewables obligation certificates. The plant is capable of combusting 150,000 tonnes of waste wood per year and produce 19.99 MWe via steam turbine and generator into the power grid and 3.75 MWth via steam off-taker.

The plant was built under an engineering, procurement and construction contract by Elecnor. The operations and maintenance contract is delivered by BOS under a 13-year agreement. The shareholders are Equitix Fund I (50%), and BEE (50%)
