Aurora Infrastructure OY

Aurora is a Finnish distribution network owner that specialises in building, financing, owning, operating and upgrading private electricity networks for its customers to support their journey towards zero-carbon commitments and to meet their growing demand for electricity.

As a long-term partner, Aurora is responsible for network development, necessary network investments, and network maintenance and operation as one complete solution offering electricity infrastructure as a service. This electricity infrastructure as a service allows Aurora’s customers to focus on their core business.

Aurora currently owns two operational networks at Finland’s large, most heavily invested, sites of international importance and strategic industrial sites, representing 6% of Finnish energy consumption. The AKO network serving the Kilpilahti industrial area, near Porvoo is the largest integrated chemical cluster in the Nordics. The ATO network in Torni, serving Outkumpu’s ferrochrome and stainless-steel manufacturing facility, the only fully integrate stainless steel facility in the world. A third site is under construction for Nokia’s new world-class and sustainable research, development and production facility in Oulu. This facility is expected to be fully operational by 2025.

The business revenue model incorporates a regulated asset value (RAV) based model, where costs spent on capital projects forms part of the regulated asset on which a weighted average cost of capital (WACC) is applied to calculate revenues. Future new networks will follow similar models as agreed on a customer-by-customer basis.
